Smart Lenses

Smart Lens are 3-focal intraocular lenses used especially in Cataract surgeries in order to eliminate not single but multiple focus problems that people may be exposed to in a certain part of their lives for different reasons.

With Smart Lens Treatment, refractive errors experienced by patients whose cornea or eye structure is not suitable for Laser Eye Lining operations are eliminated and they can see far and near clearly without using glasses.

While over 70% of the focusing process in the eye structure of humans is provided by the cornea layer, 30% is realized by the natural eye lens. As a result of deterioration in the eye structure due to different reasons, individuals start to experience nearsightedness or farsightedness at the age of 40 to 50.

The first solution that comes to mind when these problems occur is the use of glasses or lenses. The recommended treatment technique for patients who do not want to use these visual apparatus and are not suitable for laser applications due to their age can be specified as Smart Lens.

Cataract is one of the most common visual defects that people experience with advancing age. This disease, which means the loss of transparency of the natural eye lens of the person, first manifests itself with the problem of not being able to see clearly in the distance, and over time, it leads to the problem of not being able to see clearly up close.

Cataracts can be treated permanently by surgically dissolving the natural lens of the eye and replacing it with an artificial intraocular lens. However, people with near vision problems can also be treated using Intraocular Lens.

This treatment technique, referred to as Intraocular Lenses, according to the focal point;

  • Single Focus Intraocular Lens (Monofocal),
  • Bifocal Intraocular Lens (Bifocal),
  • 3 Focal Intraocular Lens (Trifocal),

as the most important factor in the development of the country's economy.

3 Focus Intraocular Lenses, also called Smart Lenses, are used in the treatment of patients who have problems seeing near, medium or far distances. Smart Lenses, which offer lifelong use after being placed in the eye of the person, are produced from a special and flexible material.

Patients who undergo Smart Lens Treatment do not have to wear glasses by getting rid of the vision problems they experience at all distances. Activities such as watching television, driving a car, reading a book, using a computer or phone, which are among the routines performed in daily life, can be easily performed in this way.

What is a Smart Lens

Smart Lenses are 3 Focal Intraocular Lens systems used to treat individuals, especially those over the age of 40, who suffer from cataracts and have a clear vision at near, medium and far distances.

3 Focus Intraocular Lens (Trifocal Lens), also referred to as Smart Lenses, can be used for the treatment of patients with myopia, hyperopia or astigmatism whose cornea or eye structure is not suitable for laser applications.

Single Focus Lenses (Monofocal Lens), which were used in cataract operations in the past for patients to see near and far clearly, have now become Smart Lenses (3 Focus Lens) as a result of the contributions of modern technology to health applications.

With the introduction of Smart Lenses in cataract surgeries, the situation of patients having to wear glasses for other focal points other than a single focal point after treatment has been eliminated.

Smart Lenses, which have the ability to stretch according to the person's angle of vision and the area that needs to be focused at that moment, offer a clear vision at all angles and distances.

Who Can Wear Smart Lenses

Smart Lenses are an eye treatment method applied especially to people over the age of 40 who have problems seeing near, far or intermediate distances. People who have Smart Lenses applied to their eyes can see both near and far clearly.

After Smart Lenses are placed in the eye instead of the patient's lens, it is a difficult process to remove and replace them. For this reason, it is evaluated whether the person is suitable for this treatment with the examination and examinations performed by the Specialist Ophthalmologist before the application.

People younger than 40 years of age can also apply for Smart Lens treatment to improve their eye defects. People of this age generally prefer laser applications. If there is an obstacle to laser treatment, Smart Lenses are applied.

People who have had Laser Eye Treatment in the past may also need Smart Lens application as a result of damage to the intraocular lenses for different reasons. In addition, patients with cataracts may become able to see near and far clearly as a result of Smart Lens Treatment.

Smart Lens Surgery

Smart Lens Surgery is an application performed with phacoemulsification method using Multifocal Lens instead of operations performed using Single Focus Lenses, especially in patients with Cataract problems.

However, Smart Lens Surgery can also be used for people who do not suffer from cataracts but have to wear glasses due to refractive errors they are exposed to, so that they can see clearly without glasses.

Especially people over the age of 45 prefer Smart Lens treatment when they cannot find the opportunity to improve their eye defects such as myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism with laser treatment. Before the operation, a detailed examination process is performed for the health of the patient and the success of the procedure and the patient's suitability for the treatment is evaluated in every aspect.

How Smart Lens Surgery is Performed

Smart Lens Surgery is a modern technology Eye Treatment technique in which the visual impairment is eliminated by adding a Multifocal Lens to the eyes of patients with cataract problems. This procedure offers successful results for people who do not want to wear glasses but do not have the eye and cornea structure suitable for Laser Eye Treatment.

After Smart Lens Surgery (Smart Lens Surgery) performed by Specialist Ophthalmologists in the field in the Eye Treatment Center with the necessary facilities, the patient achieves the desired clear vision with a safe, comfortable and successful treatment process.

Smart Lens Surgeries are performed using the phacoemulsification method. The treatment is applied on different days for each eye of the patient with a procedure time of approximately 10 minutes. Thanks to the anesthetic drops used before the operation, the process is completed without the patient feeling any pain or ache.

During Smart Lens Surgery, the problematic lens in the patient's eye is removed and replaced with a Multifocal Lens. After the procedure, the bandaged eye remains bandaged for 1 day. The bandage is removed the next day and the person has a clear vision.

Since Smart Lens Surgery is a comfortable procedure, the patient can go home after the procedure. After the first application, the process is completed by waiting 2 to 3 days and performing the same procedure on the other eye. The patient will have a clear vision for life.

How Long Does Smart Lens Surgery Take

Smart Lens Surgery covers the process starting from the numbing of the eye using anesthetic drops to the placement of the 3 Focus Lens, which is specially prepared for the patient's problem, into the eye. We can say that this process takes an average of 10 minutes for each eye.

Smart Lens Surgery is planned as 2 sessions. On average 2 to 3 days after one of the eyes with discomfort is treated, the same procedures are applied to the other eye and the person is provided with a clear vision without using glasses.

After Smart Lens Surgery

Smart Lens Treatment is an application that is safe, comfortable and has a high success rate if it is performed by specialized ophthalmologists under clinical conditions. However, as in every health application, there are situations that should be considered for the health of the patient and the success of the treatment after Smart Lens.

Among the situations to be considered after Smart Lens;

  • The patient should take care to use the drops and medications prescribed to him by his doctor without interruption.
  • When the first day after the application is completed, the person should come to the doctor for the first control.
  • After 2 to 3 days of rest, the person can start to return to their daily routine.
  • For the first 5 days after the treatment, the eyes should not be in contact with water, the face should not be washed and bathing should not be done.
  • The patient should try to sleep on his/her back and should not lie on his/her face for the first week after the procedure.
  • Until the first month is completed, the patient should stay away from environments such as pools, baths and saunas that are open to infection.
  • After the application, the patient should come to the 1st and 6th month controls, which are expressed as routine controls.

can be shown.

Persistence of Smart Lens Treatment

The clear vision obtained as a result of Smart Lens Surgery is a permanent improvement that the person will have for the rest of his/her life. During this application, an artificial and state-of-the-art 3-Focus Smart Lens is placed in the person's eye so that the patient's eye number is fixed. This treatment continues its effect until the end of the person's life.

Smart Lens Brands

Even if there are dozens of Smart Lens manufacturers around the world, as Urartu Eye Center, we use FDA approved 3 Focus Lenses in our operations. We ensure that our treatments are completed with a high success rate by using Smart Lenses, which are researched by our expert Ophthalmologists from the production stage.

Among the Smart Lens Brands that are trusted and frequently used by almost all health institutions today, the lenses produced by the American AMO and Alcon companies and the German Zeiss company can be shown. In addition, VSY company operating in our country can also produce high quality 3 Focus Lenses.

Smart Lens Types

Lenses are classified according to their focus number. This situation reveals 3 types of Lenses: Single Focus Lenses, 2 Focus Lenses and 3 Focus Lenses. Among these Lenses, 3 Focus Lenses, also referred to as Smart Lens or Smart Lens, give the most successful and effective results.

Single Focus Lenses are also called Monofocal Lenses and offer improvement at a single viewing distance. Dual Focus Lenses, referred to as Bifocal Lenses, have the feature that can eliminate both near and far vision problems.

Smart Lenses (3 Focal Lenses), called Multifocal Lenses, are a modern technology treatment technique, also called Smart Lens, which offers solutions to all problems that a patient may experience, including near, middle distance and distance.

Who Smart Lens Does Not Apply To

Smart Lens is a treatment method that can be applied to every legal age individual who has visual defects and wants to have a clear vision without having to wear glasses. However, during the examination performed by the Specialist Ophthalmologist before the treatment, it is evaluated whether the person is a suitable candidate for the operation.

Among the people and situations that are not suitable for Smart Lens application, also referred to as Smart Lens;

  • The patient's eye anatomy is not suitable,
  • The person has dry eye problems,
  • The patient has macular degeneration,
  • The person suffers from advanced eye pressure,
  • Observation of diabetic retinopathy due to diabetes mellitus in the patient,
  • The distance between the visual axis and the anatomical axis is over 0.4 mm,

Blurred Vision After Smart Lens

As with all other eye treatments, blurred vision may occur in a period of 2 to 3 days after Smart Lens Operation. You should know that this situation, which varies from person to person, is a natural result in eye treatments.

Blurred vision after Smart Lens Operation passes within a maximum of 3 days with the medications and drops used by the person and the vision becomes clear.

Smart Lens Treatment

Smart Lens or Smart Lens Treatment is an Eye Treatment method in which patients with cataract problems are provided with a clear vision without the need to wear glasses by applying a 3 Focus Lens instead of a Single Focus Lens.

In addition, Smart Lens Treatment is used to eliminate the problems experienced by people who do not want to use glasses or contact lenses due to eye defects, but who are not considered suitable for Laser Eye Treatment.

Smart Lens Prices

People may experience visual impairment for various reasons in some part of their lives, so they may have to wear glasses. The most common question we receive from people who reach our Eye Treatment Center to get rid of the visual defects they are exposed to is how much Smart Lens Prices are.

It should be known that it is not correct and realistic to specify a price without examining the patient in health applications. As a result of the examination to be performed by our Specialist Ophthalmologist in our Eye Treatment Center, how the treatment process will be and the price can be clearly stated to the patient.

Smart Lens Prices are among the issues that cause differences in 2023;

  • Genetic structure and age of the patient,
  • The type and number of visual impairment experienced by the person,
  • The structure of the patient's eye lens,
  • Smart Lens Brand to be used during treatment,
  • The experience of the ophthalmologist and the center that will perform the application,

can be shown.
